Two is Better than One (at least when it comes to touristy stuff)

Hello hello hello! It has been quite the full day.

My body apparently enjoys getting up at 6:20 6 days a week so that's when I first woke up this morning. Probably didn't help that there were some insane birds outside SCREAMING at each other like little machine guns. Haha, it's funny now that I think about it. Anyway, slept till 8 or 9 or something like that. Hung out in the room; emerged; ate; showered; and left at 10 to meet Carrie at Hellerup! We met up and were on our way to the Louisiana Museum. She's my mentor for the PIRE program and this is the first time we'd been able to meet up, what with sore throats and being tired and in a foreign city without phones and all. We had a great chat up there and were kicked off a train! Okay, so not totally kicked off but the driver walks by us, once the train has stopped, and goes "This train goes no further." He just kept walking! So as we get off we learn we have to change tracks and we're off again. It was a little hike to the Louisiana Museum but definitely worth it. We got the student "discount" (idk that 10 kr off is really a discount but okay) and walked around for like two hours. Some of the art was outside so we got to escape from the heat inside to the humidity, water breeze, and open air. We stayed till about 2 and also had a chat with a guy travelling alone from Chicago. He felt Copenhagen was daunting but Carrie pointed out that is was more likely that the travelling alone was daunting, not Denmark.

Anywho, off we went on the train again after a lunch from the 711. I know, 711? It has decent food? Yes, in Denmark anyway. We arrived in Helsingor station and started walking towards Kronborg Castle. I'd been there Thursday so I had a general idea of where we needed to go (not that it was hard to tell, you can see the castle from the station). A little walk through the city and we were there. It was still beautiful and inspiring the second time around. We got to go inside and paid to walk around the Royal Apartments (RA), the Castle Chapel (CC) and the Casements. The RA were pretty cool. Their beds were so short! And the toilets, oh man, that's the one thing about a castle I don't like. The CC was a lot smaller than I thought it would be though very ornate. All throughout the castle are the monograms for Christian IV and shoot, F and S, I want to say Ferdinand and Sofie but the F doesn't seem right. Anywho then it was on to the Casements. Those were a little "scary." They're the corridors and rooms UNDER the castle. Used during times of siege or bombardment they were dark and a bit damp. Not exactly a pleasant place to stay. Olgier is also down there. He's a Danish Hero of Legend. According to the Legend he fell asleep after serving some king and will wake up again when Denmark is attacked by an enemy. Pretty cool.

I did get to shop and bought some shot glasses as well as a couple postcards. I really need to find more postcards. I'm dying to send them out and I just don't have them! So yeah, after the castle we bought ice cream (the stuff is addicting!) I had Jordbaer sorbet and chokolade med chokoladestykker. Very good. Then it was on the train back and we did, indeed, have to switch again. The last train there was a somewhat creepy guy in the row next to us. I misunderstood, I think, when he asked for 10 kr to get coffee. I think he wanted 50 kr in coin and would give me a 50 kr note but I couldn't tell and was a bit scared of him so I just gave him ten. It's like giving a stranger 2 bucks basically. He said "Thanks sweetie" and tried talking to us twice more. Just a bit creepy. Guess you had to be there. Anyway, once back at Hellerup Carrie and I said good bye and I was home by 7. I wasn't hungry but made dinner anyway. Ate and talked with the family and also got to skype Ally! Can't tell you how great both of those were. I also heard from a Finnish friend and am now desperately trying to figure out the cheapest way from Copenhagen to Stockholm for this weekend. I'm going no matter what, I'd just rather pay as little as possible. :-)

That's it for now. I've spent a long time trying to find transportation to Stockholm and really need to get to bed!

Prayer requests: my throat is still bothering me. Please pray for healing and courage and wisdom. Pray for kindness, understanding and respect in dealing with people I meet here. Pray for my heart: as always it's the major battle ground. I ask that you'd pray for wisdom and understanding and that I would guard my heart.

Until tomorrow,
Bekah
