TGIF

It's Friiiiiiday! Work went pretty well. My supervisor was at DTU for the morning and none of my reactions from yesterday would be ready till 1 anyway so I took observations every hour and did more online translating of the quarterly report we got yesterday. One of my co-workers laughing pointed out that I could find the quarterly in English online but I told him there would be no learning value in that. I don't REALLY remember words that I typed about five billion times but with each article I got faster at typing and was able to figure out when the translation software made a weird mistake. Kind of cool.

My supervisor got back and all three reactions had to be stopped and samples prepped for analysis. Unfortunately two of them have to be analyzed by titration but I haven't done one in about two years and my supervisor isn't an expert on it so we put the samples in the fridge and will do them on Mandag when Peter and Anders can help us out.

I started writing a report of sorts. The experiments aren't giving us the results we would like but at least we are getting clear results. So the report may change focus over the next week or so. I've been here two full weeks. It's crazy. Really crazy. August is coming way too fast; I'm glad I'm enjoying my time here. :-)

About 4:15 I left work and caught the train. Instead of going home, however, I went the other direction and caught a bus to DTU to meet Yujie (formerly Jin--I learned how to pronounce her first name and I love it!). We hung out in her lab for a bit and complained about how hot it was. And it was warm. Don't wear jeans when it's super humid out. Bad idea. We met Lei and Shengpeng and walked to Aldi. Yup, there's an Aldi here. It was sooooooo difficult not to buy chocolate there. And I found a kiwi cake! Didn't buy that either. I'll have to find it again. :-) Anywho, once we had the food we walked for like 20 minutes to the DTU containers. And that was also hot. Once we were there they all started making food. We didn't sit down to eat till after 7, probably closer to 8. I just sat and took pictures and was talked to a little bit every now and then. It's unfortunate that I don't speak any Chinese. My dad always used to say I was going to be one of those 20 million or so non-Chinese people to learn the language. Maybe there's still hope for me yet. :-)

The food was DELICIOUS! There was A LOT of it too. Even though there were 8 of us we made way too much food. Other students came into the kitchen and commented on how good it smelled and how I had lucked out (since I'm obviously not Asian and wasn't speaking it was easy to tell I got lucky). Turns out most of the students I met tonight are from Va. Tech and are here for summer lab. Poor kids. They will have no life for the next 5 weeks. Anyway, my favorite dish was a spicy one. It was some kind of hot spicy soup and then you put noodles and a seaweed in it. So good! I ate way too much though and was very full by the end. Plus, two desserts, which were also delicious. We sat around and they all chatted and eventually we cleaned up and Yujie and I were able to just chat a bit. One of the Va Tech students came in and we offered him dessert and then eventually a full dinner (I'm telling you, we had a lot of food left). Turns out he arrived TODAY at like noon and hadn't gone grocery shopping yet. It felt good to help someone else out (even if I didn't make any of the food). By the time we left it was after 9:30. Still very light out, though. We walked to the bus and Yujie and I were off. 15 minute walk to the house and Lise is still out. The Copenhagen Jazz Festival started today and will run through next week so she went into the city with some friends.

It's nice and quiet though a bit stuffy in the house. I'm looking forward to sleeping a good while tonight and possibly going site-seeing tomorrow. Oh! And I'm pretty sure my throat pain is from coffee. Remember those free coffee machines at work? Well, I don't usually drink coffee but the cappachinos and caffee au lait are really good so I usually have one, the other or both. Well yesterday I didn't have any and my throat didn't hurt at all. I had two this morning and my throat hurts quite a bit. So I'm going to have to start showing some self control and only get hot chocolate and water. :-(

That's it for today. I'm going to call home and chat for a bit then go to sleep.

Hope you have had a wonderful day (or will have a wonderful day)!

Until tomorrow,
Bekah
