Today is Thursday and I not only started three reactions at work but also left early and went for a drive up the coast to Helsingor, Denmark with my host, Lise, and Jin, the other student living here! It was great. The weather has been a bit hot the past two days and will be even warmer for a few more before any rain is expected. Now, by warm, I mean 70's but with 90% or higher humidity. You step outside and practically have to will yourself not to sweat. Gross, I know. :-P
Anywho, like I said, three reactions and I met Jeppe at lunch. No wait, nope, not Jeppe. I can't remember the guy's name but he's another former DTU PhD student who knows Esben, Arkady and the whole DTU gang. Plus he's got two little kids! 2 and a half and a little one that turns one on Monday. :-)
We received the quarterly Topsoe newsletter today. It is completely in Danish. Since I have little to do right now between reactions I decided to use a translating website to figure out what the articles were about. Believe it or not this is a great way to learn new words. It's a little tedious after an hour or so but still kind of fun.
So I left work at 2 and was home by 3! I changed into a swimsuit (just in case we actually swam today) and waiting for Lise and Jin to get home. We left at 4:15 and started our drive. Almost immediately we were cooler. The breeze from driving and from being near the water was wonderful. It did smell a little bit. Like water, if you know what I mean. We drove by Klampenborg beach and stopped at a little harbour called Sletten. Some of the houses were really old with some having roofs (rooves? what's the plural of roof?) of hay! The water was beautiful and there were tons of boats, including a really old one. From there we drove to Helsingor. The city is a short ferry ride from Helsinborg, Sweden. I've been told the two cities look very similar except there's more greenery in Helsinborg and the alcohol is cheaper in Helsingor. :-) We walked around a bit and got Doner. The first time I'd heard of Doner was three years ago on the AP Euro trip with Reischauer. I, however, didn't have any. Well, I had some tonight and it was delicious! Too bad it's not in the States. :-( From there we went to Kronborg Castle. This is the castle upon which Shakespeare's Hamlet is based (sorry for the weird sentence--I thought of my mom and a dangling preposition and had to change it). We couldn't go in because it was closed but there were some fantastic views. We were all kind of tired at that point so we drove back and were home around 8. I've just been chilling and uploading pics since then but now it's time for bed.
I am feeling much better too, by the way. Thank you for those of you who have been praying for me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!
Happy Weekend to all of you!
